There are many potential military or SAR applications, too, such as infrared or x-ray vision. Break out the lead-lined undies. :)

Yeah, Clock Spider. How could I skip that link? There's nothing like a massive freakin' spider to get the ol' adrenaline pumping. :P

You should check out the botfly thread I started over at [info]wtf_nature. As for the 5 worst insects, that is overwhelmingly skewed toward the hymenoptera, which is just mean. After all, they aren't vicious, they're just overprotective of their families!

Oh, and none of them are "bugs" but I know that's not your fault. :)

Maybe I should compile a list of 5 actual bugs that are terrifying...or just delightfully strange. :)

Thinking Big
If you like Big Think (mentioned above), you should check out another newly launched site, TheFinalClub.org ().

Although lacking video content of famous academics, TheFinalClub.org has a much more thorough engagement with intellectual ideas. The site includes comprehensive blogs of Harvard courses, including Social Thought in Modern America and another extraordinarily popular class, called Justice. The site also includes in-depth annotations of great works of literature, philosophy, and history with an innovative linking system.
